  • Hola Enrique, could you please introduce yourself?

 

Hola, I’m Spanish national with 15 years of experience in Finance, in Spain, USA and Singapore. I have a wife and two kids, a son 6.5 years and a daughter 4 years old.

We have been residing in Singapore for the last 3.5 years.

I like to play tennis, basketball and now, padel, at the newly opened courts at Marina Square.

 

  • Can you tell us the main activities and services provided by Amadeus Singapore?

  • Can you briefly explain to us how Covid-19 has impacted the aviation sector worldwide?

 

Since COVID-19, the need for health document checks has become a prerequisite for travel everywhere. This has obliged airlines and airports to add manual verification process at check-in and boarding at the airport, impeding the self-service check-in and biometric boarding available before.  


In response to this need, Amadeus quickly added capabilities to its pre-existing identification solution Traveler ID, and launched these to market less than a year ago, allowing airlines to process passengers’ health documentation smoothly in light of the new requirements. While there are on-going difficulties the travel industry faces as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, I believe in looking towards the future and keeping focused on our mission to power better journeys with technology. 

Enabled by a new generation of cloud, data platforms and machine learning, the possibilities open to travel technology companies are exciting!

 

  • Tourism is one of the main sources of income for countries like Spain or Singapore. How has Covid-19 affected the tourism industry?

 

As the world moves forward from the pandemic and rebuilds travel, we believe it will take a community response to get tourism going again. 

Technology and innovation will be a powerful enabler of change. Amadeus is committed to working together with our customers, partners and the wider industry to rethink travel and reignite traveler confidence, ultimately ensuring it continues to be a key driver of global progress, positivity and prosperity.

This is what we hear travelers want too. In our recent Censuswide survey of 9,074 travelers across nine markets, commissioned by Amadeus, 44% of travelers said they want mobile applications that provide on-trip notifications and alerts. 

This research demonstrates travelers are looking forward to advancements in areas such as touchless technology, as well as other areas such as digital health and sustainable travel. Now is the time to listen even more closely to travelers’ needs so we can rebuild our industry in a way that is more traveler focused, resilient and sustainable.

 

  • How would you briefly explain the company’s business strategy for S.E.Asia?

Resilience has made the travel industry strong over the years and enabled it to bounce back every time it encountered a crisis. We believe technology will also be a key enabler to support the industry in accessing new types of content and developing new services, which in turn will be essential for driving diversification – a key consideration for our customers such as travel sellers and hoteliers.   

We want to empower our customers with the best technology to help them rebuild their businesses and prosper in the future.

 

  • What advice would you give to Spanish companies that are thinking about setting up a business in S.E. Asia and in Singapore in particular?

  • As for the time you spend in Singapore, can you tell us your favorite places to spend your free time or a special restaurant that you would recommend to us?

 

I like heading to East Coast Park with my family and exploring different parks and playgrounds around Singapore (MacRitchie Reservoir, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Bukit Batok Nature Park to name a few).

Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay have always amazed me, even though I have been there hundreds of times.

I live in Katong, a conservation district in Singapore and the neighborhood around me – East Coast Road and Joo Chiat is great for restaurants, shops, and I enjoy the architecture of the historical shop houses.

I have a colleague at work who is an expert on what are the best dishes in the different hawker centers around Singapore and I love it when he takes me to experience the variety of food Singapore offers.
